Mapvest — Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Summary

Mapvest is a research tool that helps you identify the brands you see in the wild and map them to publicly traded tickers, private comparables, and ETFs. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and who we share it with. We do not sell your data, ever. We collect the minimum required to make the product work.

Who we are

Mapvest is operated by Jawaun Brown ("we", "us"). You can reach us at jawaun.brown95@gmail.com.

Information we collect

  • Account. If you choose to sign in, we store your email address. Sign-in is optional; guest mode covers every core feature.
  • Watchlist & alerts. Tickers you save, memos you write, price alerts you set, and named watchlists you create.
  • Location. When you open the Map or List tab or request a local-area briefing, we use your device location to query nearby brands. Location is used per-request and is not stored by us other than as a short-lived cache; we never broadcast your location.
  • Camera & photos. If you use the camera scanner or pick a photo from your library, we send the image to our identification service to be matched against brands. Images are used only for that request and are not retained after the identification round-trip completes.
  • Research prompts. Questions you type into the Research chat, and the resulting agent responses, are stored on our servers so you can revisit past briefings.
  • Device metadata. A generated anonymous device identifier (used to meter guest usage), the platform (iOS or Android), the app build number, and coarse network telemetry so we can debug issues. No advertising identifiers are collected.
  • Push notification tokens. If you opt in to notifications in Settings, we store the Expo push token for your device so we can deliver only the event types you have enabled.
  • Optional Robinhood MCP token. If you paste your Robinhood agent MCP bearer under Settings, we store it encrypted at rest in our database. It never leaves our server except to enrich Robinhood link-out responses on your behalf. Mapvest does not submit broker orders; we only deep-link to the Robinhood app.

Third-party services we use

To make the product work we send parts of your requests to the following processors:

  • Anthropic (via OpenRouter). The research agent and daily briefings are generated by Anthropic’s Claude models. Your prompt text (and the retrieved context we assemble for it) is sent to Anthropic to generate a response.
  • Market-data and news providers. Quote data, historical closes, and per-ticker news headlines, with Yahoo Finance and Finnhub available as explicit fallbacks. Only the ticker symbol is sent.
  • Exa. Web research snippets used to enrich local economy briefings. Only the query text (city, state, topic) is sent.
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Reverse geocoding of your approximate location to a city/region when generating a local briefing. Only the coordinates are sent.
  • Google Maps. Map tiles and place autocomplete on the Map screen. Governed by Google’s own privacy policy.
  • Expo push service. Delivers push notifications you have opted into. We send them the push token, notification title, and body.
  • Railway (infrastructure). Hosts our API, Postgres database, and landing site.
  • Stripe. Payment processing for any future paid tiers. We do not store card numbers.
  • Robinhood (deep link only). The Open in Robinhood button hands off to the Robinhood app or website via a universal link. We do not have your Robinhood credentials and never place orders. If you have connected an MCP key, we may hit a Robinhood agent endpoint you configured; you can clear that key any time under Settings.

How we use your information

  • To answer your requests (identify a brand, generate a brief).
  • To render your watchlist, alerts, and saved research.
  • To send you push notifications for the specific event types you have opted into.
  • To debug crashes and errors so we can ship fixes.
  • To prevent abuse (rate limits keyed to your device id).

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Retention

  • Watchlists, memos, alerts, and research threads: kept until you delete them.
  • Location coordinates: not persisted beyond the short-lived cache needed to answer your request (minutes).
  • Captured photos: not persisted server-side after identification completes.
  • Push tokens: kept while your device stays active; unregistered when you disable notifications.
  • Debug logs: 30 days.

Your rights

You can export or delete your data by emailing jawaun.brown95@gmail.com. We honor deletion requests within 30 days. If you delete your account, we delete your watchlist, memos, alerts, research threads, and Robinhood MCP key. Debug logs are purged with the standard 30-day rotation.

You can revoke camera, photo library, location, and notification permissions at any time from your device’s Settings.

Children

Mapvest is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

Not investment advice

Everything Mapvest surfaces — identifications, briefings, movers, backtests — is informational and not investment advice. Mapvest does not custody funds or place broker orders. Any trading decision you make is your own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
